If you ever think about expanding your market in China or reach more Chinese customers, here are three things you need to avoid.
Never use email to send important information
Although email is the most popular method for communication in the rest of the world, it's almost a lost concept with Chinese. While you might be a master in email marketing, but you wouldn't want your biggest offer promotion to be never read by your customers. If you try to communicate or maintain a relationship with Chinese customers, you have to shift other apps and softwares.
Chinese customers prefer instant messaging apps such as WeChat.
Do not only focus on instagram marketing
Although there are more and more Chinese customers using instagram, they are still most familiar with Chinese social medias such as RED, WeChat and Weibo. It is very important for you and your business to have a presence on Chinese social media if you are thinking about reaching Chinese audience.
If you are spending a fortune on Instagram, facebook and google ads with settings that you think you can reach Chinese audience, you will find yourself with a very low ROI.
Use "we" instead of "I"
Your customer service, marketing content and anything that includes you communicating with your Chinese customers. Remember to use "we" instead of "I" when you are talking about the brand.
People from Chinese doesn't encourage individualism and they tend to think brands or companies as whole instead of departments. A very common example is you will find you Chinese customers asking your social media manager or content writer about a payment problem.
